The flashcard application of MemoCard

With the app from MemoCard App, you can access your learning cards from anywhere, synchronize them and learn them. Whether you are on the train, tram or plane, it also works offline thanks to the application of MemoCard. The MemoCard supports tablets and smartphones with the IOS or Android operating system.

What can the app do

Whether you’re learning vocabulary for a foreign language, studying for the driving theory test, or want to go over material for school or university, with the MemoCard app you can easily study any learning content on your smartphone or tablet.

You can choose from four different study modes:

  • Whole stack study
  • Spaced repetition: 5 level system
  • Individual level study
  • Exam mode

Overview of your flashcards

You can select and study any set of flashcards from the overview.

Once you have started studying a set of cards, you will be given the option to continue studying that set of cards at a later point in time. All you have to do is tap “Continue studying” The app automatically saves your study progress and picks back up where you left off. Of course, you can also start from scratch – just tap on “Study”.

The tab “Own Flashcards”, only shows you your own flashcards. You can find all flashcards for all the groups that you belong to under the tab “Learning Card Groups”.

If you organise your flashcards using a folder system, you can also find these in the app; tap on the folder icon in the bottom left and a list will appear showing all your folders. To select a folder, you simply tap on it. The app switches to this folder, so you can see all the flashcards it contains.

Tapping on the magnifying glass lets you easily search for one of your flashcards.

You can also choose how the flashcards are sorted by tapping on the settings icon. Your last setting will always be saved here and applied the next time you start the app.

Three different study modes

The app also gives you access to three study modes

Whole-stack study
This mode asks you all the flashcards until you finish the stack. At the end, you can see how many of the cards you knew and how many you need to study more. Afterwards, you can study just the incorrectly-answered cards again, or you can go through the whole stack again. Finally, there is also the option to study only the cards you answered incorrectly again, or you can go through the whole stack one more time.

Spaced repetition
Here you can either go through all the cards for all levels or choose a single level. For example, if you see that you have a lot of flashcards in level 2 and you just can't get any further, you can choose to study just that level. Then you will only be tested on cards from level 2. When you can finish these, you can switch back to the spaced repetition study mode, and all cards from all levels will be tested again.

Exam mode
Here you can specify a number of cards, which the app then randomly selects and tests you on. After that, you can choose again if you want to study the whole stack again, or just the cards you answered incorrectly.

Learning settings

There are three settings to choose from.

Flashcard order
The option “original” means that the questions are asked in the order in which you entered or sorted them. If you select “Random”, the flashcards will be shown in a random order.

Write your answer
You can choose whether you simply want to say the answer out loud and then decide for yourself whether you got it right or not, or whether you want to write or type in the answer. The “write your answer” mode is very good for learning vocabulary, because you have to learn to spell the words as well. In this mode, the app can check whether your answer was correct or not.

Learning direction
Here you can choose whether you want to see the question or the answer. This setting is great for learning “out loud”, because you should know the words in both ways.

Multiple choice questions

With multiple choice questions, you can specify when you create a card whether there is only a single correct answer, or if there are several.

Flashcards with images

With MemoCard, you can also create flashcards which include images. For example, this is helpful when learning state coats of arms or when swotting up on anatomical terms.

However, it also makes sense to use images to support your thinking. Because our brains love visual representations! That is why images, sketches, symbols or diagrams too help the learning process so much.

While we can deduce a meaning from a given image within fractions of a second, our brain goes through a much longer and more complex process when taking in text.

You can make studying easier by using images or other visual representations on your flashcards, which serve as mnemonics or help visualise complex content.
