Card 181

Question

Discuss the expected indications and response to the following casualties: USB main generator breaker tripping

Answer

AMCOP will go into AUTOFAIL.

If generator is not carrying load, escalate.

If generator is carrying load and utility is available, load is transferred to utility. Verify loads (racks and mechanical) are operating normally. Reset AUTOFAIL.

If generator is carrying load and utility is unavailable, verify loads (racks and mechanical) transfer to alternate power supply.

For sites equipped with a USB catcher system, verify Deadbus timer is fulfilled and ATC transfers load to 480V Catcher. Once load stability has been validated, escalate.

Card 182

Question

Discuss the expected indications and response to the following casualties: USB main utility breaker failing to close when commanded

Answer

AMCOP will go into AUTOFAIL.

If generator is available, load is transferred back to generator. Verify loads (racks and mechanical) are operating normally. Reset AUTOFAIL.

If generator is unavailable, verify loads (racks and mechanical) transfer to alternate power supply.

For sites equipped with a USB catcher system, verify Deadbus timer is fulfilled and ATC transfers load to 480V Catcher.

Once load stability has been validated, escalate.

Card 183

Question

Discuss the expected indications and response to the following casualties: USB main utility breaker failing to open when commanded

Answer

AMCOP will go into AUTOFAIL.

If utility is available, load remains on utility. Verify loads (racks and mechanical) are operating normally. Reset AUTOFAIL.

If utility is unavailable, verify loads (racks and mechanical) transfer to alternate power supply.

For sites equipped with a USB catcher system, verify Deadbus timer is fulfilled and ATC transfers load to 480V Catcher. Once load stability has been validated, escalate.

Card 184

Question

Explain how to fuel the generator including PPE and spill containment requirements

Answer

Generators are refueled through vendor contact and scheduling. DCEO are required to verify tank levels post fueling.

For sites with digital level indicators, read the indicator.

For sites without level indicators, the tanks must be dipped. Dipping tanks requires hearing protection,  eye protection, and nitrile gloves.

Card 185

Question

Explain how to identify proper coolant level

Answer

The glass cylinder above the generator fan that indicates the coolant level. If coolant is visible, then the coolant levels are appropriate.

Card 186

Question

Explain how to manually operate the generator and utility breakers in the switchgear

Answer

AMCOP > Mode Selector > Manual > Generator start > ON > Verify voltage/Hz > AMCOP HMI > Transfer load to generator (Open Utility breaker/Close generator breaker) AMCOP > Mode selector > Manual > Generator start > ON > Verify voltage/Hz > Switchboard > Open MCBU > Close MCBG

Card 187

Question

Explain how to manually run the generator without placing it on the utility bus

Answer

AMCOP > Login > Timers > Generator Exercise

AMCOP > Mode selector > Manual > Generator start > ON

Card 188

Question

Explain how to verify that the Generator coolant heater and thermostat are operating correctly

Answer

On the Generator HMI an EOT will be able to see what the coolant temperature is. The coolant temperature should be above 90F (preferably above 100F).

Card 189

Question

Explain how to verify the oil level is in its normal operating band

Answer

Using the dipstick > take dipstick out > clean off > re-insert dipstick back in to get an accurate measurement of the levels > read whether the oil is too high or too low based on the dipstick markings. There are two sides- one for running, one for off.

Card 190

Question

Explain the different ways to switch the generator to automatic controls

Answer

At EMCP: Reset (if E-stopped, pull out E-stop) > AUTO button

At AMCOP: AMCOP > mode selector > AUTO > Generator start > OFF

Card 191

Question

State the KW rating of the generators

Answer

KW rating will vary for site or PERDIX.

PDX4 standard is 2000Kw (2MW)

Card 192

Question

What does a flashing amber LED Light on the Generator EMCP indicate?

Answer

Generator is in a warning condition, will still start but needs to be addressed.

Card 193

Question

What does a Red LED light on the Generator EMCP indicate?

Answer

Generator is in shutdown mode due to a critical fault. Must be placed into stop to reset and could potentially have tripped the Output breaker depending on the fault.

Card 194

Question

What's acceptable coolant temperature when our generators aren't running?

Answer

90 - 130 Degrees

Card 195

Question

What's the normal position of the CAM Breaker? Temp Gen/LB Switch? What does the Temp Gen/Load Bank Switch do?

Answer

Breaker Normally Open. Switch in Gen/Load Bank Position. When switch is switched to Temp Gen it changes the source of 24 volt DC from the permanent gen to the temp gen. Changing the 24vdc  signal from the start/run relay for permanent gen to the start/run relay for the temp gen. Esentially ensuring that AMCOP is controlling the temp Gen as needed.

Card 196

Question

Define what legionella is and why it is harmful to personnel

Answer

Bacteria which causes lung infections such as Legionnaires' disease and Pontiac fever.

Card 197

Question

Describe how water gets to the PERDIX

Answer

Utility water enters ICW for chemical treatment and then enters the PERDIX.

Card 198

Question

Discuss the purpose of the UV skids and how they work

Answer

UltraViolet Light (UV Light) is used to disinfect the water system of germs, viruses, mold, bacteria, and fungi. This is accomplished by exposing the water to UV Light waves.

Card 199

Question

Discuss the steps taken to monitor and control Legionella in the data center.

Answer

Vendors perform cyclic sampling and analysis of sumps. Samples which test above desired levels result in machine remediation. Machine remediation involves opening machine supply fan breakers to prevent air flow, adding treatment chemicals to the sump, and forcing the machine into evaporating cooling to circulate the chemicals.

Card 200

Question

How frequently do we dump the evaporative cooler sumps?

Answer

Varies by site. PDX4 is every 7 days.
