Managing Notes
Record your learning material on several pages – text, handwriting or drawing – and keep an eye on local changes and conflicts.
The screenshots and example illustrations show the German interface; the instructions and captions follow your selected language.
1. Create a note and find it again
- Open “Notes” in the menu and select “New Note”. The function requires the appropriate authorization.
- In the “Title” field, enter a meaningful name, for example, “Biology – Plants”.
- Enter your content. Changes are saved locally automatically; watch the status indicator and any save errors.
- Return to the notebook. There you can search your notes and open a note to continue working.
A local storage clue does not yet mean that the note is available on another device. For this, it must be synchronized with the service.
2. Additional pages
A note can contain several pages. The “title” names the entire note; the “page title” names the page that has just been opened.
- Select “Add page”.
- Give the new page a suitable page title, such as “roots” or “flower”.
- Complete the contents of this page.
- Switch from page selection or page navigation between your pages.
Share longer topics into manageable pages. If you later create educational cards from it, each selected, non-empty page can be taken as its own card.
3. Use text, handwriting and drawings
In text mode, you can type and format content. For handwritten content, select “Handwriting & Drawing” on the desired page and open the drawing surface.
- Write with a pen or finger, draw a sketch, or complement text and images in the drawing surface.
- Choose “Apply” to return to the note.
- Check the result and save status. You can reopen the drawing with the edit action.
Notes retain the text and drawing contents of a page when changing mode. The selected view is displayed. Handwriting remains a drawing; it is not automatically converted into typed text.
The selected page view matters when converting notes into flashcards. Before converting, check whether text or drawing is selected for each page. The card editor saves the selected view; the note can retain both types of content.
4. Stored locally or already synchronized?
- “Stored on this device.” Synchronization pending.
- Your changes are local. They still need to be transferred to the service.
- “Not yet synchronized” in the overview
- There are pending changes for this note. They may not yet be visible on other devices.
- Save errors
- Note the message and check if the content has actually been backed up. Don’t close the app hastily and don’t remove local data as long as important changes aren’t backed up.
In the app, you can also work offline with locally available notes. For comparison with other devices, an accessible connection to the service is required. More on this: Offline and synchronization.
5. Treating a conflict without overwriting
A conflict can occur when the same note was changed or deleted on another device while your device still has its own draft. The message explains that your draft is preserved.
- Read the conflict notice and check your local draft.
- Select “Save draft as copy” to get your version as a separate note.
- Check the open copy and give it a distinguishable title if necessary.
- Let the copy sync. Compare it with the other version, if it still exists, and transfer desired content consciously.
The copy does not automatically merge both versions and does not automatically restore a note deleted elsewhere. Do not remove any version before you have checked the required content. If possible, do not edit the same note simultaneously on multiple devices.
6. Delete a note
Select the trash in the overview or “Delete note” in the open note. Check the title in the confirmation dialog. With cancellation, the note remains. In case of a conflict, first secure your draft as a copy and note the message.
7. Create learning cards from the note
Open the note and select “Create learning cards”. Choose a destination card set, the desired pages and complement the opposite side. This step requires a connection to the service.
The complete instructions with drawing example can be found under Create an card set → With notes.
