Learning offline and synchronizing

Learn what the app can do offline, which actions require a connection and how your study data is synchronized later.

1. Before the first offline learning round

  1. Open the app with a working connection and log in.
  2. Let the app synchronize its data. After a new installation or a new assignment, the content must first reach the device.
  3. Open the flashcard sets you need and check if the cards are available. Perform a short test without connection before a longer trip.

Offline, only content that already exists locally on this device is available. A set on the website is not automatically completely stored in your app.

2. What works offline?

ActionIn the app without internet
View and Learn Existing Local Flashcard SetsYes, with the already stored content. Learning responses are recorded locally.
View and edit local notesWith the locally available notes and permissions. Pending changes will be reconciled later.
Changing the languageYes. The language can also be changed offline in the app.
Create, edit, or perform administrative actionsA connection to the service is required. When editing and the three-dot menu, a hint appears offline.
Create an card set from notes or create AI cardsA connection to the service is required.
Change first name, last name, e-mail or passwordA connection is required. The app shows a hint for the locked input areas.
Manage organization or view organization learning statusOnly available online.

This offline help describes the app. The website does not offer the same offline functions.

3. Understanding the red offline symbol

The crossed-out WLAN icon next to the language selection appears when the device does not report an Internet connection. It disappears automatically as soon as a connection is recognized again.

The icon does not confirm successful synchronization. Your device may have internet while the MemoCard service is unreachable. The icon may therefore be absent even though online actions or synchronization are not working.

4. How is the data synchronized?

  1. Continue working locally: Learning responses and supported local changes are recorded on the device.
  2. Reconnecting: When the connection returns, the active app requests synchronization in the background. Synchronization is also triggered when the app starts or returns to the foreground.
  3. Reconciling changes: Pending data is transferred and changes are read in by the service. The affected views can then update.

Synchronization can take time. Content or results may still be missing, especially after first sign-in or a long offline period. Leave the app open for a while with the service reachable. Do not rely on a fully closed app synchronizing immediately.

The learning overview of a school or company shows your offline recorded results only after they have arrived at the service.

5. If something is missing or not current

A card set is missing offline
Reconnect the app and check account, allotment, and existing cards. New content cannot be reloaded without a connection.
Internet works, but one action fails
The accessibility of the service is additionally necessary. Note the error message and try the action again later on reachable service.
Learning progress on the web is still out of date
Open the app online and let it synchronize. Then also check the period, card set and filters on the web.
A note shows a conflict
Observe the conflict message. Check the offered option to save a copy so that you can backup your version before any further changes.

Do not delete the app or its local data as a first repair step: learning responses or notes that have not yet been transferred can be lost. Check the connection and matching first. If the problem remains, use Support Describe the action affected and the message displayed.
