Export and backups

Export your cards as PDF, Excel or CSV and find out what the files contain.

How to Export an Card set

  1. Open an card set that you are allowed to edit with “Edit”.
  2. Switch to the editor's card overview.
  3. Open “Export” and select “Excel (.xlsx)”, “CSV (.csv)” or “PDF (.pdf)”.
  4. Wait for the creation and save the file. For Excel and CSV, the app offers the device’s sharing dialog; the file is downloaded on the web.
  5. Open the exported file and check its contents before sharing it.

The cards of the loaded editor list are exported in their order, not only the hits visible through the current search. Paused cards are also part of this list. Save ongoing edits first so that the export matches the desired status.

Which format fits?

FormatContent and use
PDFFor reading, passing on or printing. Question and answer are prepared for a document. Supported images may be included; especially check drawings, image availability and layout in the result.
ExcelA table with question and answer as text. Multiple-choice answers appear numbered; correct answers are marked accordingly. Rich text formatting, images and drawings are not adopted as such.
CSVText-based table for further processing. It contains the same question/answer texts as the Excel export. Pure image or drawing pages thus do not contain any corresponding image content.

For very long texts, CSV can be an alternative if Excel export fails. Note the specific error message.

Can I re-import an export?

The Excel export is a readable question/answer table. It is not identical to the card import template with FrontHtml, BackHtml and ControlType. For the re-import, you have to transfer the contents to the appropriate template and fill in the answer fields and correct markings correctly for selection cards. CSV is not a directly offered format of card import.

The guide With the editor describes the Excel import. Importing adds cards; it does not automatically restore old card identifiers, assignments or study progress.

Export, synchronization and backups

Export
A file with the card contents prepared for this purpose. It does not contain a complete backup of your account, notes, group memberships, open sessions, or learning statistics.
Synchronisation
Synchronizes supported data between the app and the service. It is not an archive of previous versions; changes can also be transferred.
Own storage
Keep exports you need outside of the app cache and check if they actually contain the desired content. For picture-rich cards, keep the original materials in addition. For a full recovery, do not rely on a question/answer table alone.

Before deleting the app or local data, pending learning responses and notes should be synced. More about this under Offline and synchronization.
